I have commented numerous times since starting my Associates degree that there needs to be a liaison position between Health Information Management (HIM) departments and facility Information Technology (IT) departments. A person who can speak both languages and translate the information so both departments get what they need to be more efficient in working together. I feel that the program through USD has prepared me to step into that role. My goal when starting my education has always been to earn my Masters degree so I would periodically search for the right fit in a Masters program. When I found the program at the University of San Diego (USD) I felt the fit right away. The leadership focus would allow me to be right where I wanted to be, and the individual courses would prepare me to pivot into the director/executive role that I want to be in.
I want to work with a company that I believe in, that believes in me, has clear goals of growth and expansion, and wants me to be part of that journey. Throughout my courses the project management aspects we delved into sparked a dormant interest and I will be completing my Project Management Professional (PMP) certification after graduation to further cement myself in the forefront of my new career. An upward trajectory in my career is important to me, so I am looking for a company that will take me where I am and encourage me to grow within their structure to become the best version of myself with them that I can be.
My ideal role is on an IT project management team working closely with HIM departments, or revenue cycle as a whole, helping to ensure that both entities have the necessary information to help the other one be as efficient as possible, be that creating programs to streamline processes or having the necessary tools in current programs to work efficiently and further grow the company as a whole.
